Kiearri Mullins
I stared at my brother’s tears that were like a raining trembling leaf
With our last moments together even better than the last
Each hug, each sibling torment, each breath
I worry that they’re not taking better care of him
I fear that he might forgotten what he remembered
Terrified that he might lose himself, lose his culture
Until holidays, until breaks, until birthdays
But that's not enough, not enough to bond
Not enough to heal the separation they have forced upon us
I will never forget his true smiles, his true self, his true identity
Our love comes first rather than our fog
Memories staring down at us like a silent stage
Lighting when we come together, fading as we dread apart
Both of our voices fall over the offspring of a fragile shallow
Splashing into a pond like when we were children outside again
Disliking the cold hearted truth like a mirror in shards
Reflecting over what we both went through together
Our sibling bond still strong
Not even the darkness can separate us from where it flickers
Love you little brother.
