Though You May Depart, I Shall Remain

Anonymous

I open my eyes
I watch as days and nights pass
Seasons change
The snow melts
Spring blooms
Kids play
Running through the fields,
Splashing in the pond,
Counting the stars
Messing with parents,
I want to join them
What am I waiting for
Who knows?
Years pass,
People come,
People go.
One stayed
It rained
He covered me
Using his umbrella
Cleaned off all my dirt and grime
I am thankful
He leaves
I still wait
Will he come back?
I close my eyes
Decades pass
When I open my eyes
An old man pats
My head
I have been cleaned once more
I thought then
Though you may depart
I shall remain
The old man has since passed
I close my eyes once more
What does it mean
For someone to be happy?
When emotions such as
Happiness and sadness
fade away
In the blink of an eye
